Since 1981, Deborah taught design and painting while working full-time as a professional designer. She has taught at The Art Institute of Boston, Clark University, Rhode Island School of Design and Saint Michael's College. She has been teaching design, drawing and painting as a design professor at Champlain College in the Visual Communication Division from 2009 to 2024.
BOOK DESIGN
The Book Design project taught students about the flow of a book, the grid, creating a cohesive design and typographic hierarchy. Students selected their own topics, researched their topics, explored typographic solutions, created images and designed the cover and interior spreads.

ROYAL SOCIETY OF THE ARTS / DESIGN CHALLENGE
For the Senior Projects class, we chose to work on a design brief from the RSA (Royal Society of the Arts, London), a Student International Design Challenge. The project taught them how to understand and think through a brief, develop a design strategy, create concepts and implement, while documenting their process. The challenge was to conceptualize a solution to fit globally, the message was THE AIR IN ME IS THE AIR IN YOU. Focus was typography, image and applications. Four of the students were chosen as the top recipients in the RSA competition.

CHILDREN'S BOOK DESIGN
The Book we chose was "The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly", students created an accordion book. This project taught students about the flow of a book, the grid, illustration, typography, creating a cohesive design and typographic hierarchy. Students selected their own topics, researched their topics, explored typographic solutions, created images and designed an accordion children's book.

Students designed travel poster for a competition. The posters were inspired from classic European travel posters. The focus was image illustration, color palette and typography.

PRODUCT BRANDING
